Visit of a Lecturer from China and Workshops in Cosmetology

in Karkonosze College in Jelenia Góra
In the week from 22 - 26.10.2018 our College witnessed a series of interesting events and lectures in the field of natural medicine and diet as well as culture and language of China.
During that time we hosted a lecturer from Changzhou Technician College in China: MS DUAN HUAQIN, who conducted a series of lectures (in total 8 hours) on Traditional Chinese Medicine and taught our students Chinese language! She came in the framework of the Erasmus+ programme, exchange with partner countries. Lectures were very inspiring and offered students guidance in understanding basic concepts of Chinese medicine: yin and yang opposition, relations between elements. Students and interested lecturers were also able to learn about the properties of some most popular Chinese medicinal materials: the root of ginseng, liquorice plant as well as the mushroom Ganoderma. Students had also a chance to practise some Chinese language. See a short film how they did it by clicking the LINK.
During the stay of the lecturer from China students and also our guest were also able to focus on local and regional Polish medicinal plants and products.
With specialists from the organization Green Volcano (Land of Extinct Volcanoes) from Świerzawa, a little town near Jelenia Góra, we explored secret recipes for the production of natural cosmetics.
In the first workshop they focussed on the use of natural vinegar in diet and cosmetics. Participants prepared infusions of apple vinegar and Larendogry - Queen of Hungary water. They also received recipes for tonic and hair rinse based on this vinegar.
In the second workshop participants prepared their own natural creams and lipsticks based on natural ingredients, such as bee wax and various oils. One student of Journalism from Turkey, Irem Nur Onder, wrote about her impressions of the workshop:
"This is the first time I joined something like that. At first our coordinator Kamila introduced us to other people. There were many people from different countries like Ukraine,China,Turkey and Poland. A woman from Zıelony Wulkan started her presentation. She explained how we can make cream or lipstick and she gave us their recipe. All people chose their oils and best scents. We were cooking together, everybody was helping one another. When we finished, every person had some cream or lipstcik. I also liked this workshop because it helped us meet other people. Moreover, I realised that we always use detrimental things and we give a lot of money for them. However, this way is much healthier and cheaper."
Participation in all these events was free of charge thanks to the efforts of Anna Szach from Careers Office and the Erasmus+ programme.
